We understand the special role your pet plays in your family, and we are dedicated to becoming your partner in your pet’s health care. We treat your pet as we would our own and strive to give our patients the highest quality medical care with compassion. We want to make sure that you have a comprehensive understanding of your pet's health and medical needs.

She practiced veterinary medicine in the Columbus area before returning to Ripley. She established Ripley Paws in 2000 and has since then enjoyed years of practicing among friends and family. She has a special interest in surgery, spay/neuter efforts to reduce pet overpopulation, and helping in the management of feral cats in the community.

Dr. Barickman lives in Evans with her three kids, two dogs, and five cats. She enjoys spending time with her children, vacationing to warmer climates, swimming, working in her flower garden, and worshiping God.

Dr. Welling and her husband reside in Jackson County with their daughter. They have 3 dogs and 2 cats. Dr. Welling enjoys spending time with her family and friends, off-roading in the side-by-side, fishing, camping, attending church, and taking naps.

Abigail Smith

Dr. Smith grew up in Jackson County on a beef farm and found her love for veterinary medicine after watching her father and grandfather tend cattle. She graduated from Ripley High School in 2000. She completed her undergraduate studies at Marshall University where she received a B.S. in chemistry and biology. She attended veterinary school at Tuskegee University where she earned her DVM in 2008. After practicing a year in Denham Springs, Louisiana, she and her family moved back to West Virginia where she began practicing medicine at Ripley Paws Veterinary Clinic.

Ingrid Newkirk

Every animal has his or her story, his or her thoughts, daydreams, and interests. All feel joy and love, pain and fear, as we now know beyond any shadow of a doubt. All deserve that the human animal afford them the respect of being cared for with great consideration for those interests or left in peace.
